Megan Oliver is an artist, illustrator and tattooist who has been tattooing in the UK, Aotearoa (NZ) and Australia for over 20 years.
One of their motivations for wanting to tattoo was that as a young queer kid who could draw, they saw a potential for making a difference – they knew that tattoos were hugely popular in the LGBTIQ community but often people were apprehensive about entering the tattoo shop, which they perceived as a hyper masculine and heteronormative environment. Filled with enthusiasm, they went to England and found an apprenticeship with Mark Lee of Realistic Dermagraphics on the Portobello Road in London, in the early 90’s.
With an extensive and ever growing experience in the field, they have worked with eX de Medici at Deus Ex Machina, Kiwi Kim’s Celtic Dragon, Inner Vision Tattoo and now at Little Tokyo for the past three years.
Specialising in a vibrantly graphic style, their works often involve botanical, animal and bird themes, traditional tattoo imagery, pin up girls, LGBTIQ themes, and unique personalised designs.
